In comparison to Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS, Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES is optimized for data centers (though it still supports desktop workloads). Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS is the smallest and most light-weight variant, supporting only 2GB of RAM. It is the most ideal choice for small-scale usage, such as laptops and a few desktop systems. It also features the most limited software selection, including limited native support for new media services such as DLNA, and does not include support for many of the newer technologies such as OpenStack or Docker.

As Oracle Linux uses an automated update component called EPEL, there are lists of downloadable ``extras'' which are updated after every release. You can manage the various EPEL repositories using the Add Repository or Remove Repository link on the Configure Software tab.

By default, Oracle Linux host system requirements are met out of the box. However, the standard run time is optimized for shorter use cases, such as server equipment or smaller desktops.
