The book is on my reading list, but I haven't read it yet. It will be interesting to see how Adam and Steves react to my review. They put a lot of time into the book and I think they deserve an honest review.
The book then dives into the seven core values of refactoring web design:
Refactor small, stupid code
Refactor often
Refactor often
Refactor to test
Refactor to write testable code
Refactor to change the world
Some of the things I learned that I wanted to emphasize in this post:
The basics of planning and designing the UI of a website must be laid out before any content. A&D @steveschoger
The key to good design is to be able to clearly convey your brand and message to your audience. A&D @steveschoger
More important than any other element is to make sure the user experience is good, and something that works for them.
Test your work often. A&D @steveschoger
You should always be looking for ways to improve the overall experience. A&D @steveschoger
Don't be afraid to use space in a good way. A&D @steveschoger
Be bold in your decisions. You're the only one who knows how your site should feel and work. A&D @steveschoger
I was very impressed by Adam Wathan's talk at AnnualNY . I want to make sure that I get a copy of this book. I've been reading the book for the last 3-4 hours. I'm already in the middle of the third chapter. I can't read this fast!
We are learning a lot of information in a short amount of time, so I want to focus on my team. How can I best convince them of the value of adding more tests? How can I best support the testing efforts of my team? How can I best integrate test-driven development into our approach to automation and development?
The stamp is a fancy word for a marking, and it's commonly found on silver jewelry. The stamp in the picture is stamped on the inside of a ring, where the marking specifies the quality of silver used to make the ring. Most jewelry is stamped with a number, letter, or both. Here are the most common markings. 827ec27edc
